For those of you who celebrate Halloween, we would like to remind you to have fun but keep it safe. Though the American tradition of the day tends to be quite campy, there are some underrated reads that are anything but that.

Here are just a few of my personal international favorites for the day that are not to miss!

Mygale – Thierry Jonquet (France)

The Black Spider – Jeremias Gotthelf (Germany)

Rupert: A Confession – Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer (Netherlands)

Hades – Candice Fox (Australia)

Eden – Candice Fox (Australia)

Our reviewers at UnderratedReads have even more suggestions. Take a look at our “Sordid and Bizarre” and “Dark” categories for further recommendations. I’m sure that you’ll find something that will keep you up at night!
