This is one of those delightful, easy reads perfect for the summer season. Harry Lido, a PI in the laid-back town of Redondo Beach, California has a mystery to solve: who is trying to kill the part owner of a surfboard shop who is on the verge of perfecting 3-D printed boards?

Along the way, this lighthearted romp takes on all manner of twists and turns while simultaneously never losing or confusing the reader.

I found Beach Detective: Exploding Surfboard to be a quick, easy read that always kept me on my toes and wondering what was going to happen next? The pace was fast and the characters well drawn and diverse. Author Fred Fuld has also perfected the art of the cliff-hanger/page turner and just when I thought I was going to sit down and read just a couple chapters, he would hook me all over again and keep me turning the pages to find out how Harry Lido was going to get out of this one?

My only critique of the book is the dialogue in the beginning of the book which seemed to be far too formal and stilted – especially for the casual lifestyle of the L.A. South Bay area where I hail from. By the middle of the book however, the dialogue became much more natural and breezier.

All and all a very pleasant read for the beach or elsewhere.
