Holly’s Hurricane is a historical fiction set in 2040. Sounds strange, right? After all, 2040 is in the future. Let me explain.
A hurricane hits New York, badly causing Holly to move to England and live with her ailing parents. While she deals with her new environment, falling in love and working with her professional capabilities, she decides to go back in time and space, as they say, in order to wall through the ruins of New York after the devastation.
Holly’s mental health is another issue as she begins to hallucinate. I appreciated the fact that she is an architect. I believe the author’s choice of giving her that profession is very well suited as she used to design factories and destroy historical buildings in order to implement her designs.
The words have impact, and the story is well put together. I think the strength of this fictional story is how the character’s personality grows, and how detailed the descriptions are.
The story is not as long. I like how climate change is an influential factor for the story-line. It makes the reader consider the inevitable future we face today as well.
I recommend Holly’s Hurricane to historical fiction readers.
