The SILO – G. S. Heist, Greg Heist

(Reviewed by Don Jung)

This psychological thriller happens in one day. Well- written with vivid character development, we see Frank Braun on his last day before retiring from the Police Department. He gets an unusual request to interrogate young Jacob Weaver, who has been charged with a DUI and drug possession.

What starts out as a token interview becomes a spellbinding interrogation that goes back to the past of both characters. As the detective uncovers secrets that have been hidden in the suspect’s mind, he discovers a story of abuse and torture that brings out the troubles in Jacob’s life.

As you start to understand his past, the detective decides he must visit the Weaver Farm and find out more about what happened that caused so much suffering from this young criminal. The dialogue is fast-paced and moves along so well that I could not put it down.

What happens when the suspect confronts his Aunt Rose is captivating as she talks about all the bizarre events that happened in Jacob Weaver’s life. Frank Braun slowly dissects all the mysteries in a method that is unexpected with an emotional impact. As he gets to the end of this long day, you feel rewarded as he ends his career with a thrilling conclusion.

The Silo is one of the best thrillers I have read in a long time. A must-read!
