It’s the end of World War II and American military attorney, Philip Almeister, is sent on a liaison mission to Austria to help restore assets stolen by the Nazis. While working there he uncovers a treasure trove of pre-war German bonds worth a small fortune.

How he decides to keep this unusual find to himself by pocketing this treasure begins a life full of deceit and intrigue. He comes back to the United States with no one aware of his new-found wealth. After joining a law firm, he creates a client with a disguised trust that hides his illegal resources and uses his wealth to enhance his status in the firm.

But it doesn’t stop there. As he transitions to various roles and occupations including that of a judge and then a business partner with a Saudi prince, he becomes power hungry and unstoppable. He ruins several people in his spiral of success, and then finds himself fighting for self-preservation.

As I continued reading, I learned more about our anti-hero as the author kept throwing in twists that I didn’t expect. Several innocent people who he destroyed on his way to success come back with attempts to get even. A series of unusual events keep the reader puzzled on how this will end.

Comeuppance is a spell binding thriller that keeps you on edge and shows that power and greed can get sabotaged by unlikely sources.
