Date Like a Woman – Kai Nicole

(Reviewed by Judy Deutsch )

Exceptional

Let me be upfront with you. I’m not the target audience for this book. I’m not a millennial. In fact, I’m quite a bit older than the author, Kai Nicole. I married young, found myself widowed later in life and didn’t start dating until a few years after that. Even though I’m now in a happy relationship, I think that this book will be valuable to single women trying to navigate the dating scene.

This is not a book on how to find a husband; it’s a dating manual, a “how to” for single women. Nicole believes that dating is a skill, as well as a numbers game. Each chapter focuses on a concept, and you don’t have to read them in order. Pick out what interests you. What image do you project to men? How do you act on a date? Most importantly, do you know what you really want? Be ready to dump the finding your prince theory.

I like that Nicole believes that you should know yourself before you are ready to date. She suggests that women find out about themselves first, including dealing with self-esteem issues. Don’t sell yourself short.

Nicole doesn’t recommend online dating, though that is how I met my boyfriend of four years. Yes, it was a full-time job or really like a job interview. There are a lot of duds and deception out there, so I understand her apprehension.

Which brings me to the only criticism I have of the book. Nicole doesn’t give any advice on where to meet men. Maybe that’s more of a problem for my generation, as I saw online dating as my only option. Maybe that could be a subject of her next book? Hint, hint.

In any event, Date Like Woman is written in a light fashion, but with clarity. It’s a “must read” for single women of any age who are ready to get out there. In fact, I have recommended this book to some of my friends…and they need the help!
