On Nana’s Shoulders is a contemporary woman’s novel written about Debra Sherrill and her attempt to save her family.
Debra is going through a divorce and has a teenage son, Nick, who is graduating from high school and trying to find himself while accepting all the family drama. Debra’s divorce is also an influencing factor in this dynamic that unfolds. Her relationship with her ex-husband, a new beau and his son are all just a few of the things she has to endure. As the title implies, Debra is also responsible for her grandson, Logan. An unexpected and sudden event tips their worlds and Debra’s life with it. This causes more complications and Debra has to try and help Nick while still being there for everyone else.
The story is very emotional and filled with notions of love, forgiveness, family and vulnerability. It is very easy for the reader to bond with the characters since they are relatable. I particularly enjoyed how Debra’s outmost attempt was to keep everyone safe and together.
The literature had a steady pace to it and was written with care. As a female protagonist, the author created a plausible yet very vulnerable character that matures as the story went along.
I recommend On Nana’s Shoulders to people who like a family saga, fiction and stories that touch your heart.
