Brody James leaves the military to get a job in the Police Department of his hometown that he left fifteen years ago after graduating from high school. He reunites with old school acquaintances as he settles down in his new job.
The characters vary from charming to evil as he investigates the deaths of two former classmates from his past. One is a drug overdose and other is a car accident where his victim’s car goes over a cliff. Both are unexpected events, but the police chief doesn’t suspect any foul play. However, Brody believes that there is more to this, and who could have arranged their untimely demise.
The characters are well developed as you meet all types of people in this murder
mystery. The dialogue is very down-to-earth with bits of humor thrown in as you care about how they go about their daily lives. A few little routine investigations into a stolen lawn mower and a stolen car start adding pieces to the puzzle as you slowly see how each little incident fits into a smooth ending.
The Boys Are Back in Town is a quick read that is fast paced and grabs you from the start. You won’t be able to put this one down.
