Do You Follow?: A Thriller – J.C. Bidonde

Twenty-two-year-old Alexa has just been arrested for killing her boyfriend. She insists that the real murderer is her twin sister, Beth. This is where the story begins.

The author then takes us back three months and then further into the twins’ past. Alexa has suffered from mental health issues, but fortunately is hired by a marketing firm in New York City.  She can finally be independent of her father and her small town in Connecticut. She even has her own apartment, that is, until Beth shows up.

The story goes back and forth between the perspectives of Alexa and Beth. I figured out the main “twist” early on, but the plot and characters still kept me engaged. The novel was so well-written that the suspense intensified even with that knowledge. I also wanted to find out how certain particulars would eventually tie in. For instance, one was a tease early on referring to “the incident”.

Not only are mental health issues addressed, but the harms of social media and the role of psychiatrists in treating their patients. It was the last one that stuck in my head long after I finished the book.

I am so glad that I kept reading and enjoyed every minute of the story. Do You Follow? will not disappoint and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
