Final Transaction: Murder, Money & Real Estate – Diane Dickinson

(Reviewed by JD Jung)

This fast-paced real estate murder mystery pulls readers deep into Houston’s world of wealth, ambition, and secrets. When successful realtor Todd Drake — co-owner of Drake Properties and one of Houston’s top boutique real estate agents — is found shot to death before an open house, the story immediately hooks you.

The investigation unfolds largely through realtor Lara Maxwell, the first person to discover Todd’s body. Lara is an interesting main character with her own complicated personal life, and her perspective adds emotional depth to the mystery. What makes this book especially engaging is how every character feels layered and flawed. Todd himself, though handsome and full of charisma, was arrogant, demanding, and difficult, leaving behind plenty of people with motives for murder.

Author Diane Dickinson does an excellent job weaving together multiple subplots involving money, jealousy, sex, drugs, and betrayal without losing momentum. As the story develops, it becomes clear that appearances are deceiving and loyalty can easily be bought. The glamorous world of luxury real estate contrasts sharply with the darkness hiding beneath the surface.

I especially enjoyed how even the supporting characters felt fully developed, making the suspects believable and the mystery harder to solve. The pacing keeps the pages turning, and the twists make it difficult to predict what will happen next.

If you enjoy murder mysteries with flawed characters, high-stakes drama, and an inside look at luxury real estate, Final Transaction is definitely worth reading. It’s an entertaining and fascinating mystery that keeps readers engaged until the very end.
