A thrilling romp with twists and turns and more fun than should be legal.
I’ll be honest when I say that I didn’t expect much when I read the description of this book and agreed to review it. To me, it seemed as if the author had way too bizarre of a story and way too many elements for my taste. But I thought, “Hey, it’s just so bizarre-sounding, it could be good.” And boy, was it!
This book is the third of the Max Brown series, but the author does a fine job of weaving in the backstory without droning on endlessly, and I never felt that not having read the other installments was a detriment. Bernhart has a great voice and the action in this book is absolutely non-stop. His dialogue, both expressed and internal, are spot on and anyone with children will quickly appreciate the travails that the book’s main characters, Max and his wife Sally, have to endure – with no end in sight.
What I liked most about the book was Bernhart’s wicked sense of humor and his dry wit. I was laughing out loud by page three, and kept laughing all the way through. A great book written by a great author that I highly recommend and look forward to the rest in the series.
